again again again again again
It's such a beautiful day out but i am once again stuck in my study (albeit a beautiful one) writing my thesis. When will this end? I'm having a love-hate relationship with my research. At 10am i love it, at 10:49am i loathe it and look longingly at my white wicker chair sitting quietly in the corner, the sun's rays falling gently across it....
But no. I remain at my desk and listen to the leaves rustling outside in the wind. Fiction has been put aside for academia. My brain is tired from thinking and plotting and unfortunately, worrying.
At least i have a vase of flowers (bought by the darling boy) next to me for company. They're bold purple with white edges and they sit in the water doing their own thing while i do mine.
Last weekend was the Australia Day long weekend. We packed out our lunch, did the whole slip (on a tee), slop (on sunscreen), slap (on a hat) routine and went to Parsley bay in Vaucluse and paddled in the water. It was beautiful. Then we went to Nielsen Park to enjoy the cool wind. My hat tried to run away from me a couple of times. Thereafter, we drove to Double Bay for me to use the loo and on the way back to our car, stumbled upon this great cafe that served beautiful coffee. So nice and relaxing.
On Saturday, we went driving round Sydney to meet the event planners from various wedding venues- We went to the Northen beaches, and then headed back to Woollahra in the East and then to Pagewood in the...i'm not sure.....it's both south and east. The minute i walked into the venue at Woollahra, which has a garden next to it for weddings and such, i knew that this could end up being the place. It was relaxed and had nice seats. Plus there was a garden next to it for me to have my dream garden wedding (see above). Who cares if the council (who owns the garden) has given me a list of restrictions- no chairs, no arches, no microphone, no flower petals, no carpet etc. etc. (and they say this is the perfect venue for a wedding??). I am determined to make it as pretty as possible with some help. Hopefully, we'll have everything sorted out and signed by the end of next week so it will be official. Once this is done, i get to go dress shopping with my bridesmaid Lisa. Must try to be flexbile about dress since i am on a budget.
After the venue was found, Jon and i went to bills (the restaurant owned by acclaimed chef Bill Granger) at Woollahra to celebrate. Jon had thought all along that it was called pills, which i found incredibly amusing. I also tried explaining to him who Bill Granger was- "that famous chef, how can you not know him?" "that guy in the commercial?" "that guy in the toothpaste commercial...Macleans toothpaste who says he likes his lemons with mint?" And then he got it. The guy with the teeth. Yes, Bill has some blindingly white teeth. Anyways, i had a skim latte done beautifully, Jon had an iced chocolate (so good) and we shared a brownie with vanilla bean paste. Man, that was some brownie.
On Sunday, we went to Centennial Park for a walk and then headed over to Bondi beach for some food. Found a cafe that served good coffee and milkshake but not-so-good food. Disappointing but oh well. At least i got to people watch the beautiful people of Bondi.
And then it was Monday and i had to go back to writing my thesis.
And then it was Tuesday and i had to continue writing my thesis. Holding out for Beach Girls at 3pm. It's my new afternoon show. Where i get to sit down with a cup of tea and swat away mosquities. Bliss.
